Bachelor's Program in Archaeological Tourism

Program Description

The Bachelor's Program in Archaeological Tourism at the College of Arts, Alnoor University aims to prepare specialized academic and professional graduates in the fields of tourism, archaeology, and heritage site management. The program equips students with the scientific knowledge and practical skills required to preserve and promote cultural heritage in accordance with national and international standards. The program focuses on the study of the history of civilizations, archaeology, tourism destination management, tour guiding, and tourism planning. It contributes to the development of the tourism sector, strengthens cultural identity, and supports sustainable development.

The program aims to achieve the following objectives:

  • Preparing specialized cadres in the fields of archaeological tourism and cultural heritage management.
  • Developing knowledge of the history of Iraqi and world civilizations and their archaeological heritage.
  • Developing skills in tour guiding and the management of archaeological sites.
  • Preparing students to use modern technologies in documenting and managing heritage sites.
  • Promoting a culture of preserving antiquities and national heritage.
  • Develop communication skills with tourists from different cultures.
  • Supporting scientific research in the fields of tourism and archaeology.
  • Meeting the needs of tourism and cultural institutions with qualified personnel.

The student is awarded, upon successful completion of all program requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Archaeological Tourism

  • Undergraduate Level
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Level 6 of the National Qualifications Framework (upon its adoption)

Students are admitted in accordance with the regulations and admission criteria established by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, while fulfilling any additional admission requirements specified by the College of Arts, if applicable.

Requirements for the Award of the Bachelor's Degree:

  • Completion of all required credit hours.
  • Successful completion of all courses.
  • Commitment to university regulations and instructions.
  • Completion of the field training requirements, if applicable.

Prior learning or coursework completed at recognized educational institutions may be credited in accordance with the applicable regulations and instructions of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Alnoor University.

Upon successful completion of the program, the graduate will be able to:

  • Interpretation of the history of civilizations, archaeological sites, and their cultural significance.
  • Application of the principles of managing tourist and archaeological sites.
  • Practicing tour guiding efficiently and professionally.
  • Preparing tourism programs and plans.
  • The use of modern technologies in documenting and managing archaeological sites.
  • Preservation of cultural heritage in accordance with national and international standards.
  • Effective communication with tourists and local and international institutions.
  • Preparation of reports and studies related to tourism and archaeology.
  • Commitment to professional ethics and working in a team spirit.
  • Developing professional knowledge through continuous learning and scientific research.

The program aligns with the requirements of the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) by achieving the intended learning outcomes related to knowledge and understanding, specialized skills, practical skills, generic skills, and autonomy and responsibility.

All course syllabi are linked to the program learning outcomes through an approved matrix that shows the contribution of each course to achieving the intended learning outcomes. These outcomes are assessed through examinations, research, reports, presentations, field training, and scientific visits.
